Education and Training in Laboratory Animal Science
Background
Based on the requirements of the Directive 2010/63/EU the European Commission (EC) has developed recommendations for a framework for laboratory animal science education and training carried out in Europe. As part of this framework, a European Platform was proposed by the EC to help facilitate mutual recognition of laboratory animal science education and training within the Member States. To aid in this process a voluntary organisation has been established. The acitvities of the platform are coordinated by a steering committee, with a balanced stakeholder representation from Member States' National Competent Authorities, training providers and accrediting bodies.

Aims
- To facilitate the process of mutual recognition of education & training in Laboratory Animal Science (LAS) across the EU
- To provide a forum for exchanging information on LAS education and training throughout the EU.
- To help facilitate free movement of personnel involved in LAS within the EU.
Objectives of the Platform
In the short-term, the Platform will:
- Publish agreed principles for mutual recognition of LAS education and training courses.
- Establish a database with information on training courses and accrediting bodies together with their contact details
- Provide a central hub of information relating to key topics in education and training
- Supply training providers with the necessary information to establish additional training courses across the EU.
- Provide a mechanism to identify suitable training materials and existing courses for CPD
